1) variant of -es for the plural forms of nouns ending in a consonant + y; equivalent to (dropped y) + (-i- + -es).
e.g. country, countries; party, parties.
2) Used to form the third person singular of the indicative of verbs ending in consonant + y.
e.g. party, parties; parry, parries.
